The "Community Jam" was formed by local artist and musician Kimrea in 2003 and is a Community of talented professional musicians who perform benefit shows together for various local causes.
The Community Jam BeeKee Scholarship Concert idea came about in 2008 during the process of applying for scholarships and watching the process as Kimrea, a single mom, was helping her daughter Barbara to figure out how to afford college.  Barbara was accepted to TISCH School of the Arts at NYU.  Scholarships and loans covered the costs of her tuition, but there were still many other costs were not covered. 
The money raised by the Community Jam in the last two years has helped cover Housing deposits and flights to and from New York, and various other school costs outside of tuition.  Barbara is an A student and loving NYU.
